Adam on Guns:

I have had this argument too many times, and need to clarify my position.

Every time there is a mass shooting, or terrorist attack, the conversation shifts to gun control.

Please pay attention to pop-ups, videos and links

I have listed each point by number for your easy reference

I encourage your feedback, But please quote my original statement. And link to Reliable Statistics

Main Point:

  • Canada has tons of guns, like America.

Why? Because of Canada's:

  1. Good mental health care & screening
  2. Reasonable Gun laws requiring license
License, Training Courses, Secure storage, Only take them to the range / hunting
    & background checks
No History of Spousal abuse, Assault, crime, or Mental illness.
Even apparently checking with recent ex-wifes for approval!
  3. All Guns Must be registered ***
    Except Long Guns
    .
  4. Mandatory Safety Courses*
    For Prohibited Weapons
  5. Safe-Storage Laws
Guns to be kept Locked, Bullets Seperately/Unloaded.
  6. No "Open Carry" Bullshit
  7. Very-Few Consealled Weapons Permits
  8. Small Magazine Capacity (5 or 10) impede
By allowing victims to escape / fight back.
    mass-shooters.
  9. No Handguns or Assualt Weapons*
With few exceptions. And with Special License and Reasonable Screening. I.e. Cops, Armed-Cars, Military.
  10. We keep our guns at Home, and can only take them to the Range
Not the Walmart / Gym / etc.
    for Practice.
  11. Reasonable Self Defence Laws
Only being able to defend your if they pose a threat to People, not property
  12. Good Policing
  13. Less Racism
  14. Canada also didn't have the Wild West, Civil War, Prohibition, Race Wars and Drug Wars.
  15. Less Gangs
  16. Greater sense of community
  17. General Awesomeness!

Canadian Example:

  1. People often to bring up the 2017 Edmonton Terror Attack when discussing Gun laws.
  2. I think it is the perfect example of Canadian gun control working well.
  3. The [Bad Guy] only hurt 5 people. 3 of which were released from hospital the next day. All have made full recoveries.
  4. Now imagine if the [Bad Guy] could have got a few AR-15s at the local Walmart for the cost of his truck rental--We would have had 10-40 dead.

Accidental Shooting Riskc:

  1. Accidental Shooting are too common. Every other slightly-dangerous aspect of life is regulated for safety -- Guns should be top of the list.

Gun on the Ground

My Thoughts:

  • Canada's Gun laws seem good in general.
  • There will always be examples for each side of the argument. Therefor, debate should come down to statistics and specific examples.
  • Continue to allow guns used for legal hunting, but not those often used for murder.
  • I have little desire to own a gun, but think other should be able to under responsible conditions & guidelines.
  • I support the Liberal's Gun Control Platform as listed Here
  • You (personally) cannot stop a Mass-Shooter, without rigorous training. See Video->
  • Don't write gun laws on how a gun "looks"
Things such as: Folding stocks, trigger grips, and sights
. Base it on the "Damage"
Things such as: Rate of Fire, Caliber, Magazine Size, Common Purpose.
it can do in the wrong hands.
  • Drilling School Children about School Shootings seems useless. Techniques Taught won't save lives, unlike other drills, and just scare the kids.
  • "Good-Guy with Gun stopping Bad-Guy with Gun" scenarios****

    Inaccuracies:

#3 The bad guy was on the ground, tackled FIRST, before the OTHER people showed up with their guns
#4 The church later kicked out the Hero lady "Jeanne Assam" for being gay!
#5 Bad-guy had threatened the store before. So the police took away his pistol permit revoked. But because Guns are so uncontrolled in the U.S. he picked up ANOTHER gun, and shot people.
#7 seems a REALLY weird. "he was taken down by the pastor, the pastor's grandson and two church members" and "The pastor and the parishioners said they were able to get the gun away from Jesse Gates" But then Aaron Guyton shot him?
#8 "He attempted to reload the AR-15 at that point, but was unable to do so, the weapon having apparently jammed." THEN "During that time, Nick Meli, a concealed carry permit holder, drew his Glock 22, claimed to have taken aim at Roberts, but did not fire since there was a bystander behind Roberts"
. are FAR too rare, (when compared to the risk of accidental shootings) to allow for concealed guns. Also
If untrained people carry a gun with them often, they will likely/eventually become:
    Complacent / Forgetful / Negiligent / Drunk / Violent
    And then:
    • Accidently hurt someone
    • Look for cases to use it that could be resolved without deadly force.
    • Escalate a Situation
    • (In the unlikely event they do need to use their gun) Shoot innocent People by mistake / error
    • We can't even buy Fireworks in Victoria BC, and you can buy automatic weapons like candy.

My Thoughts on the United States Gun Problem:

    • Second Ammendment: Bullshit!
    • Stand your Ground: Bullshit!
    • Assault/Automatic Weapons should be kept to the Military Only.
    • Mass-Shooters often have a Mental-Disturbed (often Criminal) Diagnosis.
    • Mass-Shooters have limited ability to kill when magazine Sizes are kept small.
    • Mass-Shooter's Guns were obtained Legally, and stolen/lost far too easily.
    • Many States have Ridiculously Lax Gun laws. And neighbouring states with stricter laws continue to suffer.
    • Apparently 6 of the Top Crime Cities have a Lion's share of the violent crime problem.Link
    • They are 25 times more likely to be murdered with a gun.Link
    • This is an awful sign of the times.

What would King Adam Do Differently?

    • Increase punishments for illegal guns
    • Make Gun Certification course more-involved, regulated, and longer. Corriculum
      • Safe Storage
      • Your Legal Liabilities if you accidentally shoot someone
      • The limited scenarios/places you can fire your gun
      • Who to call if gun is lost/stolen.
      • Cleaning
Also. The cost of these courses is justified, and necessary.
    • Ban Guns that can easily/commonly be converted to Full-Automatics
    • Encourage "Smart Guns".
    • Strengthen Classroom doors in order to hopefully stop a mass-shooter.
    • Require Certification Course for All Gun Owners
    • After an appropriate Period of Greiving. Politicize the Gun Control Issue. Call for tighter controls when appropriate.
    • Investigate how "Bad guns" got into "Bad hands". Call for tighter controls when appropriate.
    • Acknowledge nothing will do will make us 100% safe. This is about limiting the frequency and scale of tragedies.

    Hard Questions:

    • If you were a soldier, and you had to clear / kill a BUNCH of people in a building, describe the gun you would like.
    • Why do military people tell their partners they are reloading if reloading only takes 5 seconds?
    • Where do you draw the line on what should be legal for a civilian to own? Knife, Musket, Hunting Rifle, Handgun, Automatic Rifles, Hand Grenade, Land Mines, Mortar Launcher, Artillery Piece, Tank, Fighter Plane, Mustard Gas, Nuclear Weapon? Where do you draw the line

To decrease the likelyhood of gun from being used in mass shootings:?

    • Hard to conceal / ambush
    • Small Magazine Capacity
    • Two hands required to shoot
    • No Bolt-Open Guns for mega-quick reloading

In addition, work on the societal issues that cause gun violence:

    • The war on drugs.
    • Poor mental health care +stigmatism.
    • Cycle of poverty and family breakup.
    • Poor education system which leads poor people unto drugs and dealing.
    • Government corruption causing people to fear and mistrust it.
    • Politicians more concerned with getting elected than fixing problems.

Enforce / Beef up existing laws:

    • Every incidence of false statements on a background check is investigated, and if not a valid mistake is 10 years.
    • Any crime committed while carrying a gun gets an extra 10 years in prison.
    • No dealing the charge away.
    • Any violent felony bars possession of a firearm for life.
    • Any felon in possession of a firearm is a 10-year federal sentence.
    • All confiscations of firearms must go in front of a judge with the accused having the same right to council as if they were charged with a crime before weapons are confidcated.

    Stupid Arguments I keep hearing:

    • They are trying to take my guns--No they aren't. Paste a Link.
    • I'm a responsible gun owner--If true, Obviously Laws aren't written for you. *
      Welcome to Life.
The Bad ruin it for the good.
With guns, the stakes are too high not to regulate
      .
