Project Goals:
- To recognize the abundance of talented people that have come from Victoria, Vancouver Island and beyond.
- To recognize the local people who have made a name for themselves by their contributions to the community.
- To promote the Victoria Film & Tourism Industry.
- To promote lesser-known local celebrities, and those who have given back to their community.
Stars:
- Local media and news personalities
- Memorial stars for those we have lost.
- Each time we present stars we will include a memorial star.
- Add additional stars as interest builds and donations are collected.
Suggested First-Batch of Stars:
- David Foster
- Emily Carr
- Gordie Dodd
- Tess Van Stratten
- Steve Nash
- Terry Fox
- Jenice "Frankie" Edroff
- Pamela Anderson
Proposal:
- We are asking for the space to be donated, but we can fund-raise to pay a fee, if required.
- We will gladly place a GVHA stamp on each star if you would like.
- We will gladly offer a seat on our board of directors to a person of your choosing.
Current Status of Project:
We are still in the process of:- Presenting the very first sample star to sponsors, local governments and community officials.
- Collecting donations and/or sponsors
- Contacting the first batch of 7 celebrities to ask for their interest.
Inspiration:
- The people behind this business are local to Victoria. Some born and raised here.
- That makes us so much more passionate about bringing this to the city.
- We see the added value of recognizing the local people that may not get recognized otherwise.
- We also see the added value it will bring to the city beautification projects as well as Tourism.
Budget - Proposed:
- Each Star manufacturing costs by XXXX: $500.
- Installation of first 8 stars by XXXX: $150.
- Annual Maintenance (all stars) : $80/year
