To Kill Mice/Rats:
Even with an overlooked, hidden nest, vermin need to eat VERY often, and without food will move on VERY quickly.
Hiring an exterminator is often useless until you do the following tasks. Sometimes just a reminder is all is required:
No matter the number of pests, diligently trapping, and removing critters will quickly solve your problem. Often in one or two weeks. Keeping a casual eye in the future will prevent them coming back. Keep on top of it!
- Keep a Tidy Home (Less Places for them to Hide)
- Remove Garbage/Recycling from Home. Store in secure containers outside.
- Remove Food Sources (Garbage Can, Floor, Sink, Stove Elements, Dirty Dishes, etc.)
- Locate/Close up any holes on the Inside of the House. Remember to Look Behind / Under Furniture/Appliances.
- Secure All Food. Feed Pets Daily.
- Close Windows/Doors that are low to the ground.
- Consider getting a Cat.
- Secure Seldom Eaten Food (Back of Cabinets, Floor, Etc.)
- Close up any holes on the outside of the house. (Fill with steel wool/insulating foam)
- Check neighbour's / tenant's Attached Suites/Garages. A Second set of eyes is very helpful.
Traps:
- Place traps in areas your pets can never go. (Attic, Behind Appliances, Etc).
- Label traps for other Humans.
- Place traps in a (cardboard) Box (if possible). Cut A small hole. Critters get in, pets cannot. Easy Cleanup.
- Place traps in places you suspect they are living/hiding.
- Place traps where you see Poop.
- Check + Reset traps regularly.
- If traps are never tripped, no pest are likely in that area. Move them around
- If your traps kill something: Re-bait, Reset, and keep going.
- Leave Traps in Position+Baited Permanentely. Don't wait for there to be a pest problem.
- Once they seem gone, leave the traps in place for cheap Maintenance.
- Best Bait ever: Peanut Butter.
