Nissan Leaf 2011 SL
Plan to Buy + Upgrade the battery on a Nissan LeafUpdated 1 year ago
-
All My Nissan Leaf Projects:
The Leaf:
I've watched 100s of videos and many things are crystal-clear:- Hundreds of Video of Happy Owners that say nothing went wrong with their leaf in 10 years, except the battery capacity.
- Acceleration + Handling is Amazing
- Battery Capacity is measured in 12 "bars".
- Typical 2011-2015 Leafs are $9000-$15000, and have 6 to 10 bars.
- There are hundreds of owners in Victoria who love their Leafs, but want to recover their lost range.
Why Upgrade?:
- Even if I get one with 10 bars, within a few years it will drop to 6 or 7 bars
The Goal?:
The only older Nissan Leaf in town with all 12 of its bars for $7000An Electric Car with 130km range. Or 220km with range Extender.
The Skills, Tools, and Ability to easily Upgrade my battery again in 5 years.
Possibly a business upgrading other Leaf Batteries.

- Most Leaf drivers *love* their cars, but *fear* their range loss over time.
- Nissan refuses to make new modules available at a reasonable cost.
- 18650s & 21700s are easy to obtain and build into modules.
- The used-module market is low in stock and risky.
- In Trunk Packs, each cell could be pulled out, individually tested, balanced, and replaced every 5-10 years
- *Passive* aluminum heatsinks, or *Active* cooling tubes could be added.
- I just came up with these rough cost estimates, not a real product.
