Edicate:
- Weddings always start late. Funerals always start on time. Don't be late! Come 10 -20 mins early!
- The grieving family may not recognize you! Introduce yourself, and how you know the dead person. Especially if it has been more than 5 years since you saw them.
- Do not ask the details of how they died!
- Do not mention that their pain is over!
- Try not to ambush the grieving family, If you have a special memory or story, they would love to hear it! But maybe write it down, and give it to them to read later. Or share it when they come to you.
- Do: Say "I've been thinking of you. Sad face. Hug. This sucks.
- Don't leave immediately afterwards! Stick around for a drink, and wait for the family to come to you.
- Don't comment about someone's eulogy: "You spoke so well". They obviously practiced their speech.
Military Funeral Edicate:
- Moment of Silence
- 21 gun salute. (Ask to save the shells)
- Do not salute when the military members do!
Speeches:
- Who should speak?
- Do NOT begin with details of the reception, like the Funeral Home Guy did at Dad's Funeral!!
- Ask people to prepare their speeches a few days in advance, and send them to the M.C. This will make sure they are well written. And they can get some feedback. Makes for better speeches.
Stages of Grief:
- Denial
- Anger
- Fear
- Bargaining
- Depression
- Acceptance
