Project #1: Paving:

  • Goal: Under $2500 to cover Driveway
  • I have tried Concrete, Ashfault, Brick, and Green
  • I can do 99% of the labour.
  • Asphalt companies said it was $2000 in asphalt alone.
  • Concrete: 1000 sqft @ 4" is 366 cuft is 10cumis @ $180/cum is $1800
  • Cubic Metre is 30% Bigger than a Cubic Yard.
  • $200 for 400 bricks(85sqft)
  • My Driveway is 819 sqft.
  • Bosco Kennel is 176 sqft. (277" x 92")

Green Driveway:

  • I would love this idea if it were comparible in cost.
  • I would combine this concept with a 18 inche wide paths for tires.
  • $0.81 / sqft. 160sqft. $130USD
  • $0.81 / sqft. 160sqft. $130USD
  • $1.10 / sqft. 216sqft. $238USD
  • $1.97 / sqft. 100sqft. $197USD
  • $2.72 / sqft. 70sqft. $190CAD

Brad O. Slate Driveway Idea:

  • 5 tons to cover 800 sq.
  • Quarry in Port Renfrew

Latest Patio Plan:

  • Buy 44 of these 2 x 2 foot concrete paver bricks for $380.
  • Rake / smooth the patio road base, and install them on the 176 sqft of patio
  • This would be quick and easy, and if I need to get under them (such as to get at the sewer pipe for a garden suite) I can just pull them up.
  • They each weigh 44 lbs. which is 1900 lbs. My Taurus can haul 1480 lbs.
  • They are in Burnaby. So I am thinking one trip, when coordinating with another friend to carry the other 13 in their car?
  • Must confirm I can cut them with my tile saw for a tight fit.

Project #2: Lights:

  • 2 Latterns Mounted to Corners of Driveway
  • Run Conduit from Panel with 3 Wires
  • Plug at the End of Driveway. Weed Eater Etc.
  • Light Switch (To Hook up to Rimes)
  • Lights in Wall, or Driveway(144 ft).
  • Parch, Power Wash, Clean, and Seal Wall First.
  • Mount 2 Lamp Posts on Driveway Corners

Lights: Dylan Idea

  • Inset 3/4" x 1/4" strips of wood on TOP.
  • Stick LED Light Strip, Lights pointing down.

Lights: Positioning and Timing

  • All Lights pointing downward only.
  • At Xmas, or During Party: Turn to Color, and Bright.
  • Most of Time: Low brightness, yellowy-white light.
  • When Motion Detected: Turn up Driveway-facing lights to Bright.

Post for Help:

Re: Driveways
1. Anyone know how to pave a CHEAP 1500sqft driveway?
Asphalt, Brick, Grass, Concrete or anything.
Cheapest Method / Quote I've found is $4000.
2. What should asphalt Cost. Google Says $21/ton, a few places I called in town said $150/ton.
-My driveway is currently Road Base,
-I have nothing but time to spend on this
Any Suggestions?
