Defunding the Police:

"Defunding the police" sounds ridiculous at first, but when you look at the detailed plan, it just means reducing the duties they are asked to perform, and using that saved money to hire others better equipped to deal with those tasks. We ask police to do far too many things.
Let the cops focus on what they do best, Serious / Violent Crimes, Emergencies, Investigations, Patrolling, Drunk Driving Prevention, Alarm Calls, etc.

• Let mental health people check in on the unstable, homeless, etc.
• Let Addiction Specialists handle drug addicts.
• Let social workers do wellness checks.
• Get School liaisons to handle truant students.
• Get Paramedics + Firemen to give first aid (when possible).
• Better fund foster care.
• Let Safety Officers Direct traffic

Most police will be very happy to focus on critical tasks, and when not doing that; they can assist with the others above.
Many of them may gladly choose to move to one of these new careers.
No one is calling for the abolishment of policing.
**In small towns, obviously the police will have to continue to take on more roles. This is referring to large cities.
