Breakups can be messy.
When your friends break up, it is hard to comfort them, but also prep them to not be further hurt.
So after many friends going through this, I made this list to "slide under the door" to remind them.

Disclaimer:
- Obviously you don't need to do these with all breakups.
- Many / most people break up amicably.
- But you know if your ex has the potential to go crazy.
- This list is so that you don't forget certain things
List:
- Change PINs. Lock shared bank accounts.
- Cancel shared credit cards.
- Separate pets.
- Prepare a list of money owed.
- Change locks.
- Don't lend out cars.
- Separate stuff asap. Even if just into piles.
- Install camera at front door in case of theft.
- Record conversations if they could get angry / violent.
- Protect valuables (jewelry, etc).
Adams Left Hand vs. Right Hand Theory:
After a tough breakup, people need to let go, and let loose.
But it can be done productively (right hand) or to personal detriment (left hand).
So I have long-come up with the following theory:

Storm Analogy:
They classify & prepare for severe storms using terms 10,100, and 1000 year events. I think it can apply to your life as well. The point is the good will balance out the bad:

Divorce Advice:
From those unfortunately too good at it:
- First Steps in Canada
- Burn Wedding Dress
- Immediately make a list of all your assets, and Liabilities, House, Cars, RSPs, etc., etc., etc.
If you haven't got a list of 20 items, keep going!!! - Collect Evidence before relations deteriorate. Angry Phone calls, admissions of guilt, etc. Canada is ONE party Consent State.
- You have to wait a year between filing separation, and final divorce.
Unless you can prove or BOTH admit to:- Adultery (one one needs to), or
- You have lived as roommates cohabitating in the same place, but celibate/not intimate. AKA."Not as husband and wife". For ONE Year Previous.
- Do NOT to put any financials in writing (text, email etc) everything verbal until the divorce.
Divorce Party:
- Blow Up Doll / Pinata to Stab
- Get High
- Everything you weren't allowed to do when Married
- Party Bus / Boat
- Male + Female
