Life Advice
I am often asked for my advice. I have had a great life. And I credit a few smart decisions in lifeUpdated 3 years ago
- Continue your Education RIGHT after high-school, while your brain is still sharp
- Don't have Kids too Early!
- Invest in Real Estate. If you can't afford a house, get a Condo first. Cant afford that, fix-er-upper.
- Learn to fix your own Stuff / Computer / Appliances / Car / House!
- Nothing good ever happens to you as you sit at home! Get out there!
- Get your Drivers License (or at least start the process) on your 16th Birthday. Earn Safe Driving Discount even if you aren't driving
- Life-long Learning: Practice old skills, Try new things, Collect Opinions, Keep up to date (technology, news, politics)
- Keep an open Mind. Respond well when others try to change yours. Your Opinions should change!
- Watch your Health. Avoid Long term medications.
- Control your Vices! If you get enjoyment from it fine. But don't be one of those smokers that has talked about quitting for 20 years!
- Do not Smoke. Breathing is important. Talk to any elderly person
- Instead of trying to find the perfect girl/guy, focus on making your life perfect and they will find you.
- Make yourself happy first. If your not happy a partner won't be much help.
- Learn to Entertain Yourself. Have your own circle of friends.
Love Advice
It breaks my heart to see how people in love will see their lives ruined by bad/abusive relationships. I wish there was a way to convince people to wait before jumping into marriage, etc:
- Work on your relationship. But once you have had enough, leave quickly. It can always get way worse
- Don't rush! There is no reason to get married quickly!
- Learn how to identify a bad relationship!
- If they keep you from your friends / family. RUN!!
Car Advice
- Have any used car inspected before you buy. IF there is an warranty, get it in writing.
- Cars are a shit investment.
- Don't buy a new one!
- Ignore Buzzwords "Lady Driven", "Spare Car", "Low kms", All bullshit!
- Learn to do basic auto maintenance and repairs!
- If you don't carry jumper cables, (or don't know how to use them), you are an idiot!
- Insurance:
- Unless your car is worth more than $10,000 never get collision insurance.
- Your deductible + increase in rates (for an at fault accident) is around $7000
- If you cause an accident, comprehensive insurance has huge deductibles, I wouldn't bother with that either.
- Don't claim an accident (you are at fault in) unless damage is over $5000
- My car insurance cost $580/year (including the 43% discount).

On Writing your Will:
It is often sad to write your will.My suggestion is to write it gradually over a couple years. Take notes. And thoughts as you come to them.
Write down well wishes to family members to pass along.
Assign personal effects to people that you know would appreciate them the most.
It will make you appreciate life.
Every 5-10 years get it updated and notorized ($25).
My will is epic.
I can send it to you if you'd like.
