Trailer Plan

I've always wanted a cheap trailer to take camping 3 to 5 times / year, with room for 2, and a dog.
Updated 2 months ago

Amanda's Camp trailer:

  • Put tarp back on.
  • Clean (Windows, Walls, Exterior, Interior, Cabinets, All Bedding)
  • Check Toilet, Sink+Shower For leaks
  • Check for Rust
  • Check if Working Fridge+Stove+Fan
  • Paint Everything ($20)
  • Paint Exterior silver ($40)
  • Fix Any Roof Leaks ($69 Sealant)
  • Replace Roof Vent ($49)
  • Chaulk+Fix Windows($15).
  • Make Curtains.($5)
  • Rebuild Front end Exterior 2 major cracks where pulling apart. Possible Wood Rot (Spray foam $40). Clamps, screws and spray foam+tape($40) recommended.
  • Cheap red tail lights($20)
  • Stabilize roof structure. Pull the panels off the ceiling where the structure sucks. And try to replace any broken 2x4s.
  • Pull the bathroom walls to find leak and replace structure
  • Adam suggests using white 90-degree roofing flashing on top of major leaks
  • Budget($500)
  • Ultimately Worth $3000-$4500

Tools:

  • Clamps
  • Prybar
  • Screw gun
  • Long+short screws
  • Hammer
  • Caulk
  • Garbage bags

My Priorities:

  • Warmer & Quieter than a Tent
  • Easy to Tow
  • Just for Sleeping. (Cook Outside)
  • Length: 8 feet?
  • Width: 5 Feet?
  • Weight: Less than 500lbs
  • Easy-ish to walk into the perfect camping spot
  • Cheap so that I can lend it to friends without worry.

I hate sleeping in a tent. Cold, Noisy People, Bugs, Hard Ground, etc.

Options:

  • Build Full 5x8' Trailer--But where do I park it?
  • Build Bike Trailer--But can I tow it behind a car?
  • Build Wooden Tent--Store in Backyard
  • Sleep in Taurus Wagon--Add Bug Screen to rear window.

Best Option would be something that can be towed, yet light enough to be moved and stored in my back yard

Features I'd like(on Any Design):

  • Fold-out Awning+Mosquito Tent
  • LED Lighting on Outside and Inside.
  • Sound System
  • Doors (on both sides)Latches to Hold Open
  • Window for Light.
  • Cooler Storage
  • Mirror
  • External Electrical Plug
  • Fold Out Table
  • Tie Downs inside for cargo

If I go with the Teardrop Design, I'd Like:

  • Sink
  • Passthrough Cabinets In+Outside
  • Water Tank Underneath.
  • Padding to prevent hitting Head. (Pool Noodles)
  • Extra Hatches for Stuff
  • 2 Mattresses so they can be stacked

Optional (Crazy) Ideas:

  • Solar Panels (Dylan?)
  • Toilet?
  • Reflective Silver Insulation? (Dylan?)
  • Periscope/Dome to look out?
  • Propane Heater? (+CO Detector)
  • Storage under floor?
  • Spot for Bosco?
  • Back door folds up to double as Roof
  • Retractable Design (see Pic)?
  • Bike Rack on Roof

Notes

  • 2005 Taurus Wagon Height: 57"
  • BC Ferries Max Height: 84"
  • The Towing Capacity:2005 Taurus Wagon is 1600lbs.
  • The Towing Capacity: 2012 Prius V is 1598lbs.
  • New 4' X 8' Kit Trailer is $599
  • New 4' X 6' Kit Trailer is $595
  • New 4' X 4' Kit Trailer is $239
  • Teardrop Instructions
  • Teardrop Linex Protective Coating
  • If I built one, I can rent it out for $500/week!

Bike Trailer:

  • Fabric Roof for Shade
  • Detachable bracket for in car
  • Room for cooler.
  • Low center of gravity!
  • "bosCARTelli" Flag or License Plate
